Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager learners. They are in a low income community that is dedicated to empowering and building strong, independent learners that can reach for the stars and have dreams with no limits. I want to teach my students to work independently in small and whole groups so they are able to problem solve and learn how to live and work in the real world.
I am encouraging positive and uplifting attitudes and behaviors while holding them to high expectations both behaviorally and academically.
I have no curriculum to work with and resources are very tight and limiting. I have to be creative and resourceful.
I want to foster my students' eagerness to learn and continue to help them love learning with hands-on activities. I want all of my students to create their own goals and be able to succeed. I want them to be able to learn how to use the proper tools so they can succeed and achieve their dreams. I want to provide as many resources as I can so my students can invent, learn, explore, help each other and be independent, responsible young men and women.
My Project
I am requesting an online, interactive, educational game called SumDog. I've used this educational game for 2 years and my students have loved it. They can use it at home and at school. It aligns with Common Core state standards in Reading, Spelling, and Math.
SumDog is fun way for all of my students, no matter their ability or academic level, to learn and practice Reading and Math concepts throughout the year.
I'm able to assign quizzes or assignments for an extended period of time. My students can do challenges. It's interactive and my students love this game each day.
I'm requesting the addition of Reading because I'm finding it's getting harder to find good, quality Reading online games for my students to play during centers to reinforce the skills they've already learned. My students get very excited when they get to play and I know they are engaged 100% of the time.
As a teacher, I receive reports weekly and can see what students are excelling and what I might need to help them with or reinforce in small group. SumDog is very user friendly and it's a great way to work smarter and not harder.
