Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My amazing students attend a civics-based, Title I school. I am committed to engaging and developing students in a supportive environment with focus on: Community, Inclusion, Variety, Innovation, Collaboration, and Success (CIVICS). I want them to become great citizens! We were built to hold 900 students and went over 1,400 the first year. Now we are pushing 2,000! The 6th graders are housed in very old portables with limited storage. I want the students to feel at home when they're in my room. They need their own place to store their belongings. We do not have lockers, and I do not want my kiddos to have to lug around a Science text and workbook all day. Most 6th graders are still small in stature, and shouldn't be burdened with a 40-pound backpack!
Leading the Ridge forward, one House at a time!
We have started a House system, similar to the Ron Clark Academy. I am hoping to update my portable (house). We are separate from the main building, and I want the students to feel like they are still included with our school community. I want to build their school spirit, and pride in attending an innovative classroom.
My Project
This new cabinet will be used to store approximately 300 paperback science textbooks and workbooks. Leaving these books in my room will cut down on wear and tear, and add to the longevity of these learning resources.
No more aching backs!
Not having to carry their books will also be beneficial to my students' health. A lightened backpack will alleviate muscle strain and potential back injuries.
The cabinet will also give my room more organization and cleanliness. Having materials neatly stacked and placed in a closed cabinet gives a student the feeling their belongings matter, and will be taken care of.
