This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work with a classroom full of motivated and kind children. They are lively Pre-K scholars living in St. Paul, Minnesota. We are a school with an entirely free lunch and breakfast. It is a school that offers unique programming to fit the needs of our population. We are constantly in need of new hands-on materials to help little minds grow.
My urban Pre-K scholars are successful when they share their voice and choice!
I'm hoping to better supply my classroom for their needs.
My Project
My PreK students are highly curious about the way food is harvested and collected. This spring we are getting the chance to leave our city school and hit the farm! At Dodge Nature Center the fabulous staff teaches our scholars about collecting maple syrup.
Sugarbush is the process of collecting and making maple syrup, this is a traditional and culturally relevant teaching experience for my PreK scholars.
Going to the farm and learning about this process will give my students insight into the process of creating food out of our surrounding environment. This aligns with our curriculum as we are learning about adapting to our environment.
