My Students

These students are very sweet but can come from rough home environments. The classroom is their safe place to be kids. These students love to create, build, learn, revise their thinking, share and so much more in our classroom. Most of our students come from Spanish speaking homes and live in small dwellings, with large families. They don't all have the support they need, so our most difficult task is to help each of them succeed and shine in their own way.

Many of these students do not have access to technology at home and do not have many life experiences that others are so lucky to have.

A majority of them struggle in the classroom academically. The dynamics of my class are very interesting because students range high to low academically, and some have learning disabilities. This is my school's 4th year having a S.T.E.A.M Magnet Program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) on site and this project will allow us to go beyond the surface of these subjects. Due to lack of funding, we do not have the materials we need to support my students' learning goals and styles.

My Project

These Scholastic Readers and the Science Spin will help engage students in everyday Science and Social Studies articles, as well as activities. They are very engaging, up to date and the pictures are usually breathtaking. The best thing about Scholastic Readers are that they are very interactive and have online resources for us to use. These resources include videos, extra articles for extension options, games, quizzes and so much more.

Scholastic Readers and Science Spin offer current events all while tying in 3rd Grade Common Core Standards.

They are the best way for me and my students to reach our academic goals in Science and Social Studies.
