My Students

I have a number of students for whom sitting in a desk is nearly impossible. One scholar in particular, I'll call him Joey, prefers to pretzel himself into interesting shapes rather than sit upright. I know that alternative seating works very well for my kiddos; I've visited other classrooms that provide appropriate accommodations. Standings desks, yoga balls, and wiggle seats provide the unobtrusive stimulation many of my kids need in order to focus on their learning. As a person who struggles to be perfectly still for even ten minutes, I cannot imagine how constricted my kids feel after four or five class periods in a desk. Alternative seating would really help us out!

My Project

Lap desks will provide the opportunity for my students to sit in a variety of locations: bean bags, stools, the window ledge, stretched on the floor! Some of the desks in my classroom are older than I am, and I'm halfway to 90! Your generous donation will not only keep my kids relatively safe from the dangers of ancient desks but will also provide chances for some much-needed movement throughout their day. Lap desks will provide stable surfaces for our Chromebooks, text books, and writing assignments. The wonderful portability means that we'll be able to take the lap desks to any appropriate workspace inside or out! Thank you again for your help.
