My students need 30 subscriptions of Scholastic News magazine.
This project expired on October 8, 2015.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students love reading Scholastic News Magazine. Help us get enough magazines so that every student in September can have their very own copy!
My students are all English Language Learners who attend a high poverty public school, where 70% of the students receive a free or reduced lunch.
Many of them come from single family homes. Some are separated from a parent who is still in their home country. They have many needs and face many challenges. Yet I have provided them with a warm environment where they can feel free to take risks. Because of this, they love coming to school and work hard for me.
Thanks to generous DonorsChoose donations, this year my students were able to enjoy Scholastic News. I started out the year with 27 students and I now have 30. This meant that several of my students had to get "copies" of the magazine. I am now thinking ahead and ordering enough so that every student can have their very own magazine.
These magazines are filled with engaging informational text which is aligned with the Common Core Standards. My students love working collaboratively or independently with the magazine. We can do anything from a jig-saw activity to finding text evidence to support critical thinking. The magazine is rich in high interest Social Studies and Science text that completely engages my students. They also love reading the debates and participating in the on-line voting!
This project will provide 30 students with their very own copy of the magazine.
It is a supplement that I enjoy having in the classroom that adds rigor and relevance to their learning. It is my hope that I can continue to have this wonderful supplement in my repertoire of rich text.
