This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work with a group of outstanding exceptional learning students who need assistance communicating. I teach a multi-grade class of energetic Life Skills students. Most of them are unable to speak for themselves. They would greatly benefit from a device to enable them to communicate. They would be more successful if they were able to effectively communicate. My students take their challenges and turn them into positives. They put forth their best effort, when others find it impossible. At times, they are difficult to engage. This will capture their attention to keep their focus.

My Project

My students will use the LAMP (Language Acquisition Motor Planning) app on their new I PAD that helps them communicate effectively with their general education peers. The majority of my students are non-verbal, so they are unable to effectively communicate in the school environment. The LAMP app is structured to enable early success and allow the students vocabulary and communication skills to grow in a way that doesn't require re-learning along the way. It is my goal for my students to be able to successfully request their wants and needs. This grant will open the door to allow them to better access the school curriculum and participate more fully in classroom activities.
