Students in my school come from a high-poverty/low-income neighborhood. Many students receive assistance for breakfast, lunch, school supplies, clothing, holidays, and even weekend back sack meals.
Providing a safe, engaging, learning environment for students with consistency, daily routines, and caring adults is a core philosophy of my school.
Students enter a safe building and can go about their days instead of worrying about life outside of school for a few hours. The staff at my school is caring and passionate about our students' education and futures. We are always seeking opportunities to provide high quality and engaging activities to enhance the learning experiences for our students.
My Project
The student success center has been a wonderful place for students with sensory and/or behavioral needs who need a quiet space to decompress or sensory process. Students are given an opportunity to come to my classroom to take a break from the overwhelming demands of the classroom. They are able to participate in physical activities, play with sensory tools, work on assignments, or just sit quietly and unwind.
These materials will help students to utilize sensory breaks in order to be more focused and successful when they return to the classroom.
With these new materials, my students will be able to choose from a variety of items that will allow them to refocus and recharge before reentering the classroom.
