Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, though the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly.
We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
I am requesting beanbags, rolling stools, yoga balls, a bench, and wobble boards to allow for more flexibility, collaboration, and learning opportunities in our classroom. Flexible seating has been shown to increase student motivation, learning, and health as they are engaged in an environment that allows them to move and make choices independently. We currently have stools, crates, and fidget bands- all of which I've purchased or made myself. I am now looking to fully transform our classroom.
Flexible seating would give my students more control over their education and would help them take ownership of their learning.
I envision my students choosing a comfortable spot to read, a balance board to wiggle while they work, or a rolling stool to quickly circle up for a group. Our bench would also provide more seating in our meeting space. Giving them this opportunity will mean the world to them!
