Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am so fortunate to work with such a great group of kids every single day!
My students are polite, voluntary, and highly inquisitive.
"Please" and "thank you" are words that I hear constantly in my class. They care about each others feelings and they treat each other with kindness. They are truly concerned with their fellow classmates well being and voluntarily help each other no matter the task.
My students are curious and LOVE a challenge. They are simply interested in the world around them. Each day is an new adventure in my classroom and each child is ready to begin their journey.
My Project
By purchasing a class set of Diary of a Wimpy Kid #10: Old School, my students will be able to participate in a fun, personal, and effective way to introduce the pleasures of reading a chapter book with a new friend.
By donating to our project you will help students improve ESL learner confidence, self-esteem, speaking fluency, vocabulary, and literacy skills, as well as help students foster a love for reading, and develop social skills.
This resource will benefit over 60 kids! My 4th graders will be teamed up with the 8th graders at the school in order to buddy read together for the next few months.
One of the most challenging issues teachers face with ESL learners is their hesitation and lack of confidence to speak the language and practice it orally.
One-on-one reading buddy programs take some the pressure off the students, allowing them to more easily speak out and not be intimidated by their mistakes or limiting vocabulary in front of a larger audience.
There's so much research into buddy reading programs that has provided evidence that one-on-one reading has a number of benefits for younger and older students but most importantly, it's just FUN! We need your support to make our dream a reality!
