Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each year my goal is to provide my students with the tools and materials they will need for the year! Unfortunately, not every family has the means to go out and purchase the long list of supplies that are needed each year. But that doesn't stop us from learning!
My students enter the classroom each morning knowing that "Today Matters!" This is our school motto, and a statement my students and I truly embrace!
The students in my classroom attend an inner city public school, just a block away from the state's largest housing projects. 95% of our school's kiddos live in low income housing and receive free or reduced price breakfast and lunch. Despite the challenges they may face outside our classroom walls, my students greet me each day with a smile! My students are the reason I teach!
My Project
Watching my students enter the classroom, find their desk, and see the stack of brand new supplies is one of the most exciting parts of the "First Day of School!" We need colored notebooks to record our learning in every subject! Scientific diagrams, math problems, and creative stories are just a few of the things that will fill the pages of our notebooks! Dry erase boards and markers are one of the most important tools in our classroom! They are used for engagement, quick checks, and the occasional free draw!
I am always amazed how brightly colored paper and markers increase the level of interest in every project!
My students love using different colors in their writing! The more colors they use, the more details their stories hold. Colored paper is used in everything from folder games, special notes, and class projects.
