I am a Career & Technical Center teacher who has 60 students throughout my four classes. We are trying to elevate the CTE Culinary Arts Program within our school district. The students are excited and hard-working. Each of them has a great sense of humor and they make me laugh every day. We are excited to have fundraisers like our fall soup sale, holiday pie sale, Christmas cookie sale, etc. However, we can always use more help to get the items we need to make our program more successful.
We are a very low income school district where funding is necessary to the success of our students.
However, this is not always an easy road to navigate within the confines of our school district. I, as a teacher, feel the need to help us get the resources we need for success in any way that I can. It is important to me that my students leave my program as knowledgeable as possible and with the confidence to go into the culinary arts field knowing they have the proper training.
My Project
Technology is everywhere--entwined in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. It only makes sense that our schools also effectively deploy mobile technology in the classroom. However, for many schools, implementing the latest technology is a difficult strategy to navigate.
However, the benefits of integrating technology in the classroom are many.
If used correctly, mobile devices and the applications they support will help prepare students for their future careers. Integrating technology into the classroom is an effective way to connect with students of all learning styles. It also gives students the opportunity to enhance their interactions with their classmates and instructors by encouraging collaboration.
Using technology in the classroom gives teachers and other faculty members the opportunity to develop their students' digital citizenship skills. It's one thing to use mobile devices, it's a completely other thing to know how to use them correctly and responsibly. Integrating technology in education helps students stay engaged. Most students today have been using mobile devices like tablets and smartphones to play and learn since they could crawl. So it only seems logical to align today's classrooms with the way that my students want and are used to learning.
These Chromebooks will help me expose my students to a world of culinary we are not able to reach in our town. It will allow them to complete projects easier and help me implement an online textbook option to replace our very outdated current textbook. Having the Chromebooks will also allow me to offer more certifications to my students, giving them more assets to take into the workforce with them. I am asking for 11 Chromebooks now, however I will need 25-30 total. Our success will be better thanks to you and Chrome!
