Kingston is a district that has come a long way. The poverty rate in our rural area is one of the highest on the state. About 20 years ago, fourteen small rural districts consolidated to form the school district that stands today. This newly formed school district struggled to get and then maintain state accreditation. However, through the hard work and dedication of many remarkable educators and administrators, the students have realized that they are more than just "the poor kids" and are capable of amazing things.
We have grown from the district that barely could stay accredited to one that has some of the highest test scores in the area.
We are ranking higher than schools three to four times our size. Every year, we graduate more and more students. The majority of them go on to further their education through college, vocational training, or military service. Kingston is still small but our students have proven time and time again that they are capable of achieving anything that they set their minds to.
My Project
Our school district blessed us with some AMAZING technology this year. The students love using our new classroom set of Chromebooks and they have helped us to be able to use online and digital resources more often in the classroom, without having to make special trips to the computer lab all the time.
As much as they love the new Chromebooks, many students struggle to use the touchpad and get frustrated when they try to complete their online activities.
Having some wireless mice that my students could use would help alleviate their frustration and help them get through their online activities with less stress.
