Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a inner city - newcomer school which means that many of our students are learning English as a second language. Students at my school are eager to learn, excited to be back in class, and very active participants. My class is full of inquisitive, voracious students who are craving to discover the newest adventures in geography and discover the world.

My Project

As we know, if children aren't able to read well, the struggle bleeds into other core classes outside of Language Arts and Reading. All of our students want to want to be able to improve their reading skills. One of the programs we use, and dedicate a whole hour to, allows students to listen to someone read to them while they follow along. Unfortunately, when 25 students are listening at different paces and places, it gets a little chaotic so headphones would be very beneficial. With the increase of assignments and programs being used on computers, the Chromebooks often run out of juice. Students switching seats to be near outlets becomes a distraction and a nightmare for contact tracing, therefore extension cords are a must for classroom sanity. Likewise, since this is a geography class, we do a lot of coloring sheets and maps. With all of the paperwork, it's easiest to keep the papers separated and labeled so that the germs of middle school don't have to touch everyone else's papers. If we had folders, we'd be able to have everyone keep all of their work in folders. Because these are trying times and students are doing their absolute best, I'd like to have some stickers and small rewards for them to earn. Just to remind them that being good pays off!
