Help me give my students the ability to read an write like their peers. I am hoping to teach them to journal about ideas they find in the novels we read like the Acorn People
My students are part of a community that values education but somehow my students have not kept pace with their peers. How can we close the achievement gap when students lack the materials necessary to succeed? A review of the students in my class and their records indicate that the students with disabilities are part of the lowest performing sub-group at the school. The students in my classroom are students with Specific Learning disabilities in reading, writing and communication.
The students in my reading and language arts classroom need support to improve their ability to read and write at the level of their peers.
They often do not read or practice the strategies to become better readers and writers. My plan is to use a variety of novels to hook students into literature and use the ideas of interactive notebooks to practice their skills.
My Project
My students struggle to read and respond to what they write. I know that with the right tools. Being able to read books like the Acorn People and Okay Now to engage them. Then we can use our composition books to log some of our ideas and thoughts. Interacting with the novels they are reading makes the students more engaged in what they are reading.
It is important for my students to read engaging novels that are on their reading level and be able to learn to write.
I want my students to read good examples and begin to write their own. Reading and writing skills are necessary to be a successful adults in todays society.
