Help me give my students a strong literacy foundation. The population of English language learners (ELLs) in U.S. public schools is on the rise.I would like to provide my students with activities to strengthen their literacy skills.

My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. I work with students that are English Language Learners who struggle with both reading and writing. My goal is to teach my students what they need to know in a more exciting context, through a variety of experiences using a hands on approach. I believe when my students can take what they have learned and apply it to their lives, it makes them feel successful in school. Reading and writing is essential for every other subject area. Some of students lack confidence because of their skill set and it is up to me to provide a comfortable setting to provide them with the tools they need to be successful readers and writers.
There are currently more than 180 different language groups represented by the students in America's schools. Students who speak English as a second language constitute a significant percentage of the nation's school population: schools currently provide programs for nearly 3 million ESL students, and it is estimated that this population is growing two and half times faster than that of native English-speaking students.
As a teacher, I'm faced with multiple challenges, I have to teach the content area curriculum, while supporting the literacy development of the ESL students as a whole.
However, the main challenge is limited resources/support. The literacy resource donations I am requesting will provide engaging hands-on activities, to help the student build critical English language skills necessary to be successful in school. For example, building vocabulary, learning phonemic awareness skills, developing sight knowledge to help build reading skills, and much more.
