My students need new strings for some very well loved string-less ukuleles I recently inherited so that everyone can join in the fun!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every morning students from all over the school come to the music room to explore and just be themselves. They want and need to express themselves. Many of them have never been exposed to stringed instruments of any kind and this year will be the first!
My students are a diverse group, mainly from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
They may not have very much, but they are full of wonder and love, and they are eager to learn new things and express themselves in their own way.
My students come from neighborhoods where they get little or no exposure to the arts. There is little opportunity to be creative and express themselves. The music classroom is a place where magic happens and kids can find their "voice". Every kid is a leader and has some sort of leadership role in the school and that brings out the "amazing" in every one of them.
My Project
My students will use the newly strung ukuleles to learn basic chords and songs, mainly in class group sessions as well as after school instrument jam sessions with other students and eventually teachers!
I will have select student leaders to apprentice with me and learn all they can about the ukulele and how to care for, string and tune the instrument. There's always room to learn something new!
My students will get a chance to play an instrument and make music not only to enhance their minds, but to give them the ability to work and collaborate with others, read music and use both sides of their brain.
