This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am the math inclusion special education teacher in a rural high school. The school has over 1,000 students that range from 9th to 12th graders in courses from Algebra I up to Advanced Mathematical Decision Making.
The math inclusion class setting allows students who need extra support, in math, to receive the services without having to be pulled out of the classroom.
Current district data indicates that students entering into the 9th-grade struggle with mathematical problem-solving. As a new teacher, my goal is to increase student achievement in the math department.
My Project
This is my first year teaching in the high school I received my diploma from. As a new teacher, one of the things I have noticed about my school is the limited resources in the classroom. At one point there was an adequate amount of supplies but over time, the supplies have been depleted without any being replenished.
I am requesting donations to purchase scientific calculators for the math inclusion classrooms.
Some students have a hard time purchasing supplies for school. In a class of 25+ students, we only have 10 calculators for them to use. This requires the students to share the materials and usually causes them get off track.
By requesting 30 calculators, we can be sure that every student has access to the materials they need to be successful.
