This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
" A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step," says Lao Tzu, and my children need help making this first step. They are unaware of the huge world all around them.
My students are a group of sweet and rather curious first graders who have little exposure to the world around them.
They live in neighborhoods made up of people who look like them and for the most part rarely venture outside of their neighborhood. This greatly limits their exposure to the world.
My Project
I am requesting a subscription to two grade appropriate magazines for my students. These magazines will open up the world to my students through their pages. Students will be able to read about places they have never heard of before and science they have yet to imagine! Not only that, they will be able to locate their sight words in actual text reaffirming the importance of these words.
As inner city students my class does not get the chance to see much outside of their neighborhood.
These magazines can help change that and truly make a difference in my student's lives.
