Being in high school, my students range from the very shy and quiet type, the over-achiever, the sports person, the very energetic, and sometimes the "I just don't care student", just to name a few. I like to make my classes more project based, with lot's of partner and group projects. Interaction among student's may be slow at first, but it is interesting and fun to watch them learn how to communicate and get along with their peers that normally they may not associate with. I love to watch this process take place.
We live in a rural area where the resources are not available to partner up with businesses to help out with extra funding that is needed.
This lack of funds make it difficult to purchase new items or refill items as needed.
My Project
Students in my Intro to Business and Marketing and Business Management classes operate a school store that is solely funded by sales from the business. We sell tee shirts, cow bells, key chains, mugs, and many more items. Students choose what to sell, purchase supplies needed, produce the items, and advertise. All money from sales is used to purchase new items or supplies needed for the store. Covid has hit us hard by not being in school as much, so sales are down.
We have two sublimation machines that the ink has dried up over the summer making it impossible for the students to create new designs to be printed out and applied to shirts, mugs, and various other items.
They are wanting to learn how to operate the machine and are excited about the possibility of getting the ink.
My students operating the store take pride in their products and what they are able to create and sell. Operating the store gives the students real world experience in running a business.
