Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love teaching 3rd graders because they are still young enough to embrace being completely goofy but old enough to know the value of a good book and some independent reading time. My students love to start the day with a morning meeting, where they can share goals or highs and lows. Each day, they most look forward to their math and language arts centers where they get to explore new concepts more deeply after their mini-lessons are completed.
Teaching in a Title I school has its challenges, though, that limit the enjoyment of enrichment opportunities that the children can have in the classroom and learning centers.
Attempts to incorporate technology into the classroom have typically resulted in frustration and failure. By the time many children are even able to get a device that works to start or login, the device crashes or it is time to rotate to a new station. Since we are a new 3rd grade class, we do not have the same supplies that the rest of the grade has. Because of your support, though, we are hoping to improve our kids' access to meaningful and enjoyable education.
My Project
These materials will help make our classroom a dynamic learning space where students have the freedom to grow and learn in the best space possible for them. The balance discs, wobble chairs, and portable lapdesks will allow for children to work around the room and choose a space that is most conducive for their independent work and concentration.
Our classroom also has the need for basic technology.
Students are excited to expand upon their class lessons through a variety of reinforcing materials. A tablet station is always a highlight, and although I have access to several websites that will let me program short learning activities for the students for the day, the students don't have the tools, so we need the requested tablets!
