Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have been teaching fifth grade for many years. This year I am rotating with the other fifth grade classes at my school, so I not only have my own class, but two other classes come to my room. We are a Title I school, and the students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds both socially and economically.
I am always looking for ways to make school engaging for the students so they can reach their full potential.
I have created a classroom that looks like "coffee shop". We have dining room tables instead of desks. This allows students to have a comfortable environment, a larger space to work, as well as make it easier to collaborate with one another.
My Project
Currently, I have tall tables and chairs that I have purchased with my own money over the last three years. The students love the big tables and overhead patio lights. They really love the atmosphere and feel comfortable in our classroom.
We need some new stools in our class to replace a set of chairs at one of the tables.
The chairs I have at one of the tables are bulky and hard to move around, and are starting to fall apart. The students are pretty hard on them! I would love to continue using the big tables I have, but the student chairs that the school provides aren't tall enough. Having four new sturdy stools to replace the bulky chairs I currently have would really help.
