Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

The first thing that teachers pass out every year is the supply list. I teach first grade in a high-poverty school in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Many of my students' families struggle to buy these simple school supplies. In order to start the next school year off well, I want to have basic supplies ready for my incoming first grade students. I know that the children would be motivated and ready for a successful year if they were armed with the right tools, such as markers, crayons, pencils, erasers, scissors, glue sticks, pencil boxes, notebooks, and journals. These are the basic supplies that the students will use every day during the year. I know that these supplies would mean the world to students, who would otherwise not have new supplies of their own.
