How do you describe such diverse and interesting Lieblinge?
My students range from grades 6 through 9, so ages 11 through 15!
They're going through many changes and challenges but have decided to study German. Some are exploring world languages, others just German, and still others have made the plunge to learn the language in depth!
My 6th graders are inquisitive and unfamiliar with the structures of language. They're learning to be more global. My 7th graders are motivated and curious. They've taken their first steps into something new!
My junior high students have decided to not just explore, but to learn my favorite language! German is now a daily part of their lives. My German 1s are learning not only German grammar and vocabulary, but English as well. My German 2s are familiar and capable—moving out of novice and into intermediate.
My Project
I am raising money for my students to have a wonderful classroom organizational tool entitled "Seat Sacks." Seat sacks are canvas/polyester "bags" that slip over the back of a chair that have a pocket to hold items. I would like to keep classroom items that students use frequently (books and dictionaries) in order to ease transitions and keep the objects close at hand.
By having Seat Sacks on every chair back, students will have more room for their own materials underneath the desk.
Students are not allowed to bring backpacks to classrooms here at the junior high—both a safety and security issue. My classroom has the added issue of being rather small and oddly shaped (two doors on two different walls!) I would like to cut down on storage along the walls and remove a bookshelf by keeping all the books attached to the chairs. The additional benefit of leaving the baskets under the desks free for students' supplies will help keep their things clean and the minimal aisle-room clear and safe.
