Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have about 150 Physics students, and it is difficult to laud their achievements and accomplishments enough. They are hard-working, talented and dazzlingly intelligent. They push me everyday to be a better teacher by asking insightful questions and grasping extremely difficult concepts.
These young men and women will be the next generation of pure and applied scientists, engineers, doctors and difference makers in our world.
I can tell you that from the front of my classroom, their future is so bright, I have to wear shades!
My Project
Very few high schools in the country have access to their own spectrometer, which is used to precisely measure the intensity and wavelength of light. But very few high schools in the country have students like mine. Their thirst for knowledge is insatiable.
The spectrometer and electrostatics kits will allow my students to perform extremely precise experiments to determine the nature of light and electromagnetism.
It is incredibly difficult to obtain data for meaningful analysis without equipment with high levels of precision. The vast majority of my students will go on to study engineering and science when they reach college. Gaining experience with impressive equipment like this in high school will help put them on the right path to success in these challenging fields of study.
