Study Like Starbucks- A Cozy Classroom for Little Learners
Help me give my students 4 Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seats and a Flex-Space Round Floor Table so that they feel safe in order to grow, learn, and be proud of their accomplishments at school.
Have you ever felt completely overwhelmed/frustrated/discouraged by a task or a responsibility that you are expected to complete? I can't even count the amount of times in which I've realized that I was missing an ingredient for my dinner recipe or I couldn't figure out how to fix the toy that my daughter dropped. Luckily, as adults, were are able to conquer these problems by using our resources... think: a car, google, reading directions, etc. Kids, especially those with disabilities, experience feelings like this on a daily basis while they are at school. However, as children in a school setting, they often do not have the resources or the knowledge to go ahead and fix these "problems".
This year, have the honor to be teaching 19 sweet, smart, and adorable little loves in grades 1 and 3 who experience learning disabilities.
How lucky am I?! All of my students experience various difficulties with learning in the general education setting and need a little extra support (aka: LOVIN'!) from a special education teacher (that's me!). My students are all diagnosed with various disabilities from learning disabled to ADHD to autism which makes them all totally unique and equally amazing.
My Project
Have you ever walked into a Starbucks to enjoy a calm and inviting coffee experience only to be met by disappointment when you notice that all of the the "comfy" seats are already occupied? Do you feel the desire to stay or would you rather leave? Me personally? I'm either totally leaving as soon as I get my hands on that cup of pure joy or I'm going to rush through it so that I can move on to all of the other things that my brain is busy trying to accomplish that day. Now, put yourself into a school setting. You're a little learner in a big building. Oh and learning... that also doesn't come all that easy for you.
You walk into your classroom and you're greeted by hard, cold, metal chairs and tables that are taller than half of your body.
Do you want to stay? Are you excited about going in to learn something new?
With a Flex-Space Round Floor Table and 4 Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seats, my students will be given the opportunity to walk into a welcoming learning environment as soon as they enter my classroom. This will allow them to feel engaged and motivated, gain confidence, and feel safe and loved as little learners. How AMAZING is that?!
