My Students

I am the special education behavior teacher and my students try very hard to please their teachers. Although they can be a handful at times, they show true GRIT which is the theme of our school while trying to change attitudes. My students can be silly and they love it when they get to come to my room to play for sensory breaks or attitude adjustments.

They always need someone to listen and when you listen and treat students like you care; eventually, they will come around and become successful.

Our students sometimes come from sensitive and traumatic situations and they just need someone at school that can be normal, people that they trust and people that care about them so that they can have safe and successful days. Here they have a home away from home. These students eventually work hard because they see that educators care about them. After the trust is built, the students see success in what they do and they become interested in having a good time at school and making a mark in society.

My Project

The objects that were chosen for this behavior incentive program were chosen, some because there are sensory satisfactory tools like weighted neck animals, squishy objects, gum and chewelry for chewers, LEGO kits for students who work extra hard and show responsibility by saving their points in order to get a big-ticket item. There are a lot of STEM items and problem-solving skilled items to satisfy those enormous curiosities. These items will help me build my store for my students to purchase and leave them with the feeling of self-accomplishment because they will be able to purchase these items at the end of the week with hard work and showing true GRIT!

By creating behavior goals with each student in my program, I will be able to allow them to be an important part of taking on some responsibility for their behaviors and actions throughout the school year.

Each of these students has the potential to be successful at earning rewards and maintaining their goals and each of these items would give these students an opportunity and motivation to be successful during their day.
