Seeing students excited about science has been the greatest gift since joining DonorsChoose.org. Our district has faced a lot of financial hardship in recent years and your donations make hands-on learning and inclusion a reality in my classroom!
We are a rural, low-income school district surrounded by farmland, which many students live and work on.
Many of my students are tactile or kinesthetic learners who enjoy being able to get out of their desks, move around, work with their hands, experiment, and create things. I also have a unique group of learners with special needs who often require modified instruction to achieve success in our science class.
My Project
The biggest complaint of my high school students year after year has been the hard, uncomfortable, restrictive chairs they are forced to sit in. I've heard many reasons why they dislike traditional tables and chairs. Some of these reasons are that they are too tall for the hard chairs, their backs hurt from the stiff seats, their feet go numb, and they lack energy because they cannot move. It is hard for anyone to sit still for up to 8 hours each day, especially in uncomfortable seating.
These desks will give my students a chance to improve their posture, balance, and comfort level without disrupting the learning process.
My students have seen balance ball chairs at their chiropractor's office, heard about alternative seating in classrooms, and have asked for me to get some for our own classroom. These seats will allow them to work on their posture, stay active for the hour that they sit in my classroom each day, and solve many of their aches and pains while getting their blood moving to increase focus and alertness. My students are asking for these chairs and I hope donors can help make their wish come true!
