My Students

I teach students in third through sixth grade in a functional, self-contained setting. Some of my students in my classroom are autistic and follow the TEACCH Model. This model is a structured approach to teaching students with Autism. Part of the structured teaching is having the students follow a daily individual schedule. This schedule helps keep them focused, engaged, and on task.

My students are truly amazing superheroes!

Many of my students are functioning well below their grade level, and they need a variety of experiences to help prepare them for what lies ahead. They come to school ready to be superhero students! They are all working towards being independent in different skills, and love opportunities to work on creating new things that will enhance their learning. Since they are at a critical age, I want to increase their skills to help them with advancing these skills. I teach on a campus that houses grades K-6. On this campus, there are a total of six classrooms for students with Autism.

My Project

All my students want to learn at their level of skills that will help them be successful now and in the future. Being able to gain new insight that is geared towards students with autism is important. With different curriculum books, I can create innovative activities and tasks that will enhance their learning. These books will enhance the students learning in the areas of play and social, imitation, instructional control, and adaptive skills. This will give me the tools to create new interactive learning activities for my students. My classroom is a place where my students with autism can be creative and learn in a unique setting that will meet their needs not only academically but socially.

My students are amazing superheroes!

The play and social curriculum will help me create ways to teach independent and coordinated play skills with and without stimuli, including social interaction and joint attention skills. With the instructional control curriculum, it will give me the tools to build instructional control through paring yourself, the environment, and materials with reinforcement and systematically increasing instructional demands. The imitation curriculum will help me create new ways to teach vocal and motor imitation needed for language and general skill development. Finally, the adaptive curriculum will give me ideas to work on practical everyday behaviors that incorporate areas of self-help such as eating, life skills, grooming, toileting, dressing. Being able to meet my students' needs will help them be successful not only in the classroom but when they are out in the community.

With your generosity, I will be able to create new innovative activities and tasks that will help my students be successful.
