I work with students with Special Needs. This is a resource program where we support students to be successful in the general education classroom.
There are four out of twenty students that are on the autism spectrum.
We have limited access to color printer or fast copying during the IEP meetings. The students also need behavior support visual that should be in color. There are many behavior issues. Students also have difficulty with social skills. Most students are learning two languages as well, as we have a bi-literacy program for Spanish and Cantonese.
Students with Autism do not have access to color supports. Our special education team includes Speech and Language, Social workers, a school Psychologist, and a special education resource teacher. None of us have a color printer although we all work with the students on the Autism Spectrum.
There is data to support that students with special needs and behavior challenges benefit from access to visual supports.
This includes visual schedules, social stories, reward charts and other individually needed supports. A HP Laserjet Pro color printer will make it easy to copy ones we may not have on the computer, but also quickly print out items for students wot keep and teachers and aides to use in the classroom.
