My students are all learning English in the school setting. Their families are from different countries, and they speak another language at home. They are a diverse group of ages and cultures. From Kindergarten to fifth grade, they are learning about English and becoming proficient academically.
We work in small groups and cooperation is key.
I tailor my lessons to meet the challenging needs of these students, while I honor their rich backgrounds and home languages.
Each child needs individual lessons that are particular to their needs as they grow in their language proficiency.
My Project
This project will allow my students to learn English by accessing an ELD software program on Chromebooks. This ELD program individually assesses each student's abilities and then builds individual lessons to increase their understanding of English, while giving support in their primary language. The Chromebooks will allow the students to privately interact with the ELD software program, while being engaged in active videos and motivating activities designed to increase their academic knowledge through English.
The power of becoming proficient in a second language cannot be emphasized enough when it comes to helping our students be successful, productive, college-ready individuals.
Technology can do what we can't, individualize each lesson so that no two students' lessons are exactly the same, thereby ensuring each student is getting what they need in order to progress. If I can't get enough funding for all 8 Chromebooks, I will make do with whatever funding I do get, so please fund me!!
