Mr. Catolos from New Orleans LA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students access to current events- Upfront Magazine. Upfront Magazine also provides an outline of upcoming articles and topics in advance. This will also me to plan and reflect for upcoming lessons.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
The students enrolled in my classes are a combination of regular education students and special education students. Students with an IEP (Individual Education Plan) and 504 plan are mainstreamed into regular education classes. Reading is like any other skill. The more a student reads, the student will increase their reading comprehension skill. I do not have laptops or Chromebooks for my students to access current events. One alternative to not having computers and laptops is to have a subscription to Upfront Magazine.
My students would benefit from having access to Upfront Magazine.
The articles are relevant and current. The articles will spark discussion and debate among my students. The articles will also improve reading, writing and thinking skills. A class set of 10 copies of Upfront Magazine would allow my students to have access to current events, become informed and make rational decisions.
Upfront magazine will provide current events for my students, It will improve student learning since the magazine provides guided questions, diagrams, pictures and charts to help students understand key concepts and current events. Upfront Magazine will also be used to enrich and extend the lessons. Upfront Magazine will be used in my classroom weekly to provide background information so students will be able to understand an issue, become an informed citizen, develop critical thinking skills.
Upfront Magazine also provides links and websites so students will be able to access more information at home since computers and laptops are very limited at my school.
Upfront Magazine is developed for high schools and Upfront Magazine provides questions to help students reinforce their understanding of the articles.
