Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

100 percent of our students come from low-income single-parent homes and they have high needs, but they have even higher hopes! Our school is in the heart of downtown and serves two public housing projects where many of our kids live. Some of their most basic needs like uniforms, food, or even shelter are oftentimes not met, but they are kind, caring, loving students who are willing to learn and grow.

Our students may have high needs, but we have high hopes that each student can and will be successful!

It's critical that we make sure they reach their greatest potential and empower them to be the best that they can be! We don't pity, We empower!

My Project

Students should sit and get lit (literature) in this comfy area with lights. A reading nook can achieve this. Although a soft chair, plush throw pillow, and ottoman is an invitation to crack open a favorite read, a reading nook is a place where you can sit and take a breath. It should be a corner, dedicated to your student's needs and unique personality. Sometimes all a child needs is a comfy place to curl up with a book. From a simple design of a few pillows and a stack of books to a played-up cool space to read and enjoy!
