As an English teacher at my school who also has started a school library, I interact with most of the students who flood our halls. Sixth through ninth grades mostly use my classroom library which I have grown to the point where the entire school can check books out without fear of emptying the shelves.
My students love to read, and they come to me constantly requesting certain titles.
I have seen a need for certain series. My students are avid readers, and they know good literature when they are exposed to it. As enthusiastic readers, they spontaneously create "Would you rather read this title or that title?" graffiti boards on the white boards in our hallway. The other students love to add their thoughts about literature on these impromptu anonymous book discussions. I want to give them more to talk about!
My Project
One of my top goals as an English teacher is to help my students discover the "just-right" book for them. Once they find that book, I often struggle to find them a new book to match their excitement from that first book. By offering a wide variety of series, my students can dive right into the world of reading over and over.
I listen to my students, and I know which books they want to read.
My goal with my classroom library is to put a good book into the hands of every student in my school. I have heard their requests, and I want to make these series disappear from my bookshelves on a regular basis. I can't wait to put these books into my students' hands.
