My Project

Help! We are stuck in the 20th century with outdated, worn-out student desks. We are using the same desks that were here 26 years ago when I first arrived. They were old and worn-out then. The desk tops are chipped, bolts are missing, and, according to my angelitos, they are just plain uncomfortable. Our classroom is in need of an extreme makeover!

One size does not fit all in the 21st century learning environment.

I have designed a multi-level, multi-textured collaborative setting, where teens will feel welcomed, comfortable and ready to learn when they walk in the door. I am so determined to provide this space for these deserving, hard-working students, that I have started the "makeover" with my own funds. To date I have purchased counter and standard height tables, along with cozy seating options.

The final phase involves floor level seating. I have two types of seating, and the last thing we need are some beautiful tables. I tried to find tables that were already made, but the majority of vendors did not offer a 42" version. The one I found at School Specialty, was not available. A 36" table would not comfortably accommodate 4 students, while a 48" table would make our space feel crowded. When I discovered the Lorell table top I knew it would be the perfect addition. I was thrilled to find sturdy legs, similar to the School Specialty table. I have already purchased a few of the black chairs. They are comfortable and durable.

My students truly appreciate the effort I have made to create this space for them, and they would be ecstatic if it were completed while they were still in the classroom. We thank you for your consideration and we are grateful for any help you may be able offer.
