My students need these books to help build their literacy. Fish In a Tree is an amazing book that follows the story of a young girl who has a learning disability. Her story mirrors my student's!

My Students

I get to teach the most amazing kids. I know every teacher says that, but mine are truly spectacular. I have a diverse group of learners, many with learning disabilities.

I get to teach 6th grade at a Title I, public school, and my students are currently at a 1st grade achievement level.

Even though we have a lot of work to do academically, they come to school every day eager to dive into work. I hope I can give them the opportunity to succeed in this world.

My Project

The characters in these books reflect the experiences most of my students have had. The main character in Fish in a Tree has a learning disability. She constantly gets in trouble to avoid exposing her struggle to learn. Many of my students have the same experiences. Ally, the main character, meets some wonderful friends that support her. I want to share this novel with my kids, because Ally comes across a teacher that truly believes in her. He discovers her learning disability and helps her work through it. I want my kids to know that their disability doesn't define them! I want to give them the confidence to be successful in their education!
