Students of Military Families Need Extra Resources
My students need classroom resources such as a Chromebook, paper, ink cartridges, stamps, erasers, literacy centers, and chart paper to enhance our writing instruction.
Have you heard of the Leader in Me? We are a Leader in Me school and my students come to school knowing that they can make a difference and that it is all up to them! One of the biggest challenges is empowering students to take the lead in their reading.
My students are of all different levels and backgrounds but they come to school knowing they are all equal in our classroom.
We have an inviting classroom and my students take ownership of themselves, and their classroom. We are a Title I school but this does not hinder our learning in the classroom. All students can be leaders and when they know and understand this, there is nothing that can get in the way of their learning. As a Title I school, we do face challenges but we also work hard to overcome those challenges by empowering all students to learn that they have a voice and they can make a difference in school and in life.
My Project
We will be using these resources to help us write to and about our families that are in the military. The Chromebook will be used to connect other classrooms that are in the same type of community through video. We will use the paper, the ink, the stamps, and the other materials to help us improve our writing skills as well as helping us connect to those that are not close to us. Students will be able to write and then publish their stories, and letters so that they can mail them to wherever their families may be located. Giving the students this opportunity will empower them to take the initiative to keep in touch and connect with those that are not living with or around us.
This project will improve our classroom because it will help us not only build our relationship with each other in the classroom but it will also help us build our relationships outside the classroom.
Writing is not always easy, but if students have the right resources and experiences, it will help them open up their creative vaults.
