This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in the farming town of Delano, California. Most students are low income and rarely leave the city. My students have challenges to overcome, such as limited English language, limited parental education, low socioeconomic status, little influence for secondary education, minimal exposure to technology.

I have 10-11 years old students; reading literature is one of the only ways they get new experiences at this age.

My students love to read and the ability to access text would mean the world to them.

My Project

My students are primarily English Language Learners and are in need of headphones to listen to the language during assessments. Having a set of headphones and mouses will allow my students to access the materials they would otherwise struggle with. All testing is now done electronically, and my students are at a disadvantage without the equipment possible to help them succeed. Many times, my students are all working with different texts that allow them to work at the appropriate pace. When the computers are all playing texts out loud, it does not work in the classroom. We have a limited budget and providing access to computers was a very big accomplishment!
