My Students
I am starting at a new school this year! Even though the new school I will be at is not Title 1, I know there will be some struggling readers. It is often difficult to get students motivated to read. Unfortunately, at this time, I don't know anything about the students in my class. I can't wait to meet them and start our year of learning together.
It is awesome to see students get excited about learning.
I try to find things that students are interested in and incorporate them into the classroom. I am also big on getting students up and moving!
My Project
Scholastic News Magazines always focus on interesting topics that students can't wait to read about. I love using these in my classroom because students can read them independently, we can use them in guided reading groups, or as part of a whole group lesson. Sometimes we do a close read and use the magazine all week long! These are also great for students who do not have a lot of reading materials at home - once we are done using them in the classroom, they become part of a student's at home library!
Because my school has 1 to 1 iPads, students can also use the online skills games to practice a reading comprehension or grammar skill!
