I teach art at 2 different elementary schools. I am hoping to utilize this 3-d printer at both schools. One of my schools, Murphy Elementary, is comprised of approximately 491 students and I teach grade kindergarten through fifth grade. My other school is Peachtree Elementary and I also teach grades kindergarten through fifth and is has approximately 159 students. Our county is very isolated in the rural mountains of North Carolina and our entire county (including grades kindergarten through eighth) receive free breakfast and lunch. I strive to do art lessons with my students that go beyond just a paper and a pencil project because I want to give them as many various art experiences as possible, as I know the art room may be the only place that get to have these experiences!
My Project
This coming school year, I am making a push to integrate more technology into my art curriculum. I teach kindergarten to fifth grade students in two different elementary schools, and both schools will benefit from this printer! If I am able to get this printer for my classroom, students will learn to use code to design and create their own creations that will be printed three dimensionally and painted to create sculptures! I especially want to use this 3d printer to teach students about famous architecture around the world, and help students to be better prepared for a global world! Students get plenty of pencil and paper projects. My goal is to get them learning and using their critical thinking skills by using materials beyond pencil and paper. This 3 d printer would benefit 600+ students and would be a centerpiece for 3d learning in my art room this year!
