Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a city that has been ranked the number one most dangerous city in the country. We have a high level of poverty and the problems in the community are felt in our schools.
Many of our students do not have strong parental support and guidance.
We have students that go to school full-time and work several part-time jobs to help sustain the livelihood of their families. While the students have an assortment of obstacles they face every day, I also say that they are hard-working and intelligent individuals. It is my job to ensure that when they graduate; my students are prepared to be functioning citizens in society.
As a teacher in a Title I school district, I observe that many of my students lack the basic necessities for school. I want my students to be successful in everything that they do.
My Project
Camden is the poorest and one of the most dangerous cities in the US. School is typically the only safe haven these kids know. Our schools, for a variety of reasons, lack the resources to provide these amazing kids with the education they deserve. By investing in these kids, we help can mold them into productive members of society. You're giving them the opportunity to dream of a better future. In order to integrate math and art, the kids are doing a process chart poster contest in small groups. Each group is going to do a concept chart poster for a math concept they are working on (all concepts are math related). After each group finishes their posters, they will type a process chart of each concept which will be presented to the rest of the class. In order for us to do this project, the proper materials are needed to type these concept and create the posters, so the students need an iPad Pro to complete this project.
