Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students this year consist of kindergarten, third, fourth and fifth graders receiving specialized instruction in literacy and math through IEPs. They are all fully included and receive pull out resource support. Over half of my students go home and speak another language.
I love working with such a diverse group of students!
In addition, 65% of my school receives free and reduced lunch, so they don't have the opportunity to buy the supplies and materials they may need in order to be successful in school.
My Project
My k-5 students with special needs are looking for new updated reading materials for when we read during our small group instruction time.
They want both fiction and non-fiction materials that will spark their interest when reading and working on their comprehension and retelling skills.
They have expressed a lot of interested in learning about the world around them and the many different cultures that make us all unique. As a result, they have asked for more non-fiction books. These books will really help to keep my students engaged and allow them more choice in the reading materials available to them in our resource classroom.
