It is the mission of our school to develop a caring community of lifelong learners that fosters continual growth. We have a diverse and inclusive school community, committed to academic excellence. We provide instruction in a respectful, responsible, safe, and kind learning environment through collaboration with faculty, families, and community. Our school has a student body of approximately 550 ethnically, socially, and academically diverse students in grades K-5. Over a quarter of the student population are socioeconomically disadvantaged. Over one-third of our students are English Language Learners.
With over 500 students that visit the library each week, we get many questions and requests: "Where are the mystery books?", "Where are books with unicorns?", or "I want a funny book!"
Currently, there is no way for students to search the library catalog to find the books they need for classwork, research, or enjoyment reading unless they bring their own device without asking the library media assistant to locate something for them.
iPads in cases are ideal for this situation as they are easy to use and portable. Students can bring the catalog directly to the shelves with them as they search to find the books they need. We’d also love to use the tablets for students to access e-books and audiobooks in the library, not to mention all the cool creative apps that could be used for maker-space and coding projects in the future!
