My Students

My students are incoming 9th graders starting high school and working this summer in a high school prep program with me. We are specializing this summer in American history. They are eager to learn and research about the great stories of American history.

History must come alive for students not through textbooks but through hands on learning.

My NYC public high school in Long Island City, Queens has limited resources and can use all the help it can get. We strive to bring in depth experiences of American history to our students.

My Project

My students annually compete in a history competition in which they produce documentaries and a Go Pro Camera will be a great addition to their production tools. This competition takes place at the school level and the citywide level of the National History Day Program. The students work both individually and collaboratively in creating documentaries on various topics. A Go Pro Camera will be beneficial in their ability to record interviews and primary sources for the documentary project.

This advancement in technology will allow the students to be more creative and flexible in their documentary design.

I look forward to seeing how the students will utilize this new technology in my classroom.
