My students need basic school supplies to help begin another school year. Brand new crayons, a steady supply of pencils, a composition notebook and a pack of colored pencils will be so exciting for them.
My K-8 urban school is a large school with over 600 students. My students come from various economic and cultural backgrounds, with over 60% of my students eligible to receive free lunch.
Approximately 16 different languages are spoken in our school by students from Africa, Asia, Central and South America, the Middle East and more.
We truly are a microcosm of the world. My school is dedicated to the education of the whole student with a commitment to both academic and social growth. With a focus on higher-thinking skills, we prepare students to be successful in high school, college, and beyond.
My Project
Pencils, crayons, erasers, notebooks, colored pencils and pencil sharpeners are needed everyday in my classroom. Being able to update and improve the inventory of basic supplies I currently have in my classroom will ensure that all of my students start the school year with a personal set of school supplies.
My students come from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
There are six different languages spoken in my classroom, and at least sixteen different languages spoken throughout the school. Sixty percent of the students who attend my school receive free and or reduced lunch. My school has a strong ESL program, and is in fact one of two sites in the city where students considered of refugee status are sent to attend. Because of this, many students in my classroom are not able to start the school year with their own set of brand new school supplies. Being able to provide sets of crayons, pencils, erasers, folders, and notebooks will enable a of my students to have these everyday supplies available in their own desks whenever they are needed.
