Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with students who mostly have social/emotional behavior problems. These kids have been removed from a public classroom, into my classroom, where our team helps them learn coping skills, social skills, and behavior management. I work alongside with the general education teachers to make sure our kids stay on track with their peers, but also provide smaller groups for learning that minimizes triggers that regular classroom setting may have (i.e. loud noises, large groups, non-individualized learning).
My kids are fun and enthusiastic, they just need a little more help getting their feet on the ground.
Individualized learning helps them to be the leaders they want to be. We are just guiding them in the right direction.
My Project
The items in this list are basic school supplies that my students need to be successful. During the 2017-2018, we ran out of many of these supplies, and our school was unable to order more. It made it difficult to teach simple assignments.
With funding being cut, and class sizes growing, it is wonderful that there are people who are willing to help our cause.
Additionally, I work in special education and many of my students need flexible seating options. I observed another classroom and their kids loved being able to sit on mats and work on the floor, instead of sitting in at a desk all day. My students expressed their want for more flexible seating, and I think they will love the new options provided in the 2018-2019 school year.
