My students need the book Stiff and light diffusers for the classroom.

Comfort mean a lot to a high school student, so I make my room as much like home as possible. Students are often in a school building during the week more than they are at home. It is for that reason that I am concerned about the atmosphere in my room.
I teach students at an urban school high school where 85% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Many of my students work after school to help their families pay bills or take care of younger siblings once they get home so their parents can work a second job. My students value their education and see it as a way to get out of poverty. Most enjoy school and love to be exposed to new things and ideas.
I am requesting two items that I need for my classroom. The first one is the book- Stiff. I will be using this for my AP language course. This is a new course in our building and we have very few nonfiction books that I believe my students would enjoy reading. It is necessary for them to read several novels and I would love to work this one in the curriculum. I know that this book will keep their interest and produce great discussion in the classroom. The second item I requested are light diffusers for the fluorescent lights in my classroom. I see this as a real need because so many of my students get frequent headaches from the lighting and often ask me to work in the dark. If they work in the dark they can't see to do their work, so that isn't the answer either. My friend has these in her classroom and swears that it has changed the atmosphere and the rash of headaches as well!
I want my students to have the best experience at school because they deserve it.
I can do that by providing a nice, inviting environment with which they can learn as well as interesting material to study. These items will help me accomplish that task and meet their needs.
