Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a busy, active, creative class that loves to learn. Hands-on learning can be messy and take longer than paper pencil, yet the results and comprehension are worth the time.
Poverty should not define them and the situation that a child finds themselves in.
My students are from the projects with a 70% free and reduced lunch rate. We can find a common ground for all students and that is Creativity. I have seen students thrive by giving someone a finger knitted scarf, complete with tassels. Pride in a creation is magic in itself. When students are confident in themselves with one thing, that confidence grows into other aspects of their lives.
My Project
Creative expression in the classroom is what the students remember. We are limited with pencil, paper, and crayons. Creating realistic illustrations in science with Watercolors on watercolor paper will be life changing for many of my students.
Offering kids another way to be creative in STEAM is critical in their education.
I learned watercolors this summer and have artistically transformed many of my teaching practices through this medium. Creating personal book marks, woodland animals, scientific illustrations to add to student science journals, motivational posters with vibrant watercolors and pen is easy and rewarding.
"I made that!" is a proud phrase all kids should be given the opportunity to say.
We also have a school Fabmaker Silouette that students can turn their watercolor artwork into 3D cards or projects!
