This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students of my Literacy class are hungry for knowledge and eager to learn! Despite any hardships they may face outside of school, they show up every day expecting to be cared for, to be respected, to be offered compassion, and to gain an education. They are creative, ambitious, and have more grit than most adults that I know. It is my distinct pleasure to be their teacher, their advocate, and to do my part in helping shape this generation.

My Project

It is my firm belief that students should become familiar with, and learn to love, the feeling of a real book in their hands. This project is all about exactly that, raising the funds for a single class set of Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick. I am very excited to work through this story with my students as it is one of grit and compassion between unlikely friends, something we could all use a little more exposure to. I am hopeful my kiddos will be able to have their own individual copies in order to really experience this story and the reading process. Please help this become a reality for my class!
