My students attend a small rural school that is supported by Title I funds. All students receive free lunch. There are about 30 students in grades 7-12 in this small school, yet they are all excited about science and STEM education. We live in a ranching community and most students work with livestock and have daily chores at home before and after school.
My students love learning and are very curious about science.
This year we started a new STEM class with 7th graders. They LOVE the class and want to try their hand at every challenge I can throw at them. For the most part, we do not have enough funding for the supplies we need. Yet, my students are eager to use what materials I can make available, even if it means altering the experiments a little to accommodate.
Students will use the copper tape, craft supplies, card stock, 3V 100 Pack CELEWELL CR2032 Battery and the DiCUNO 200pcs 3mm LED Assorted Light Emitting Diodes Diffused 2pin Round UV White Red Yellow Green Blue Warm White Pink Orange Chartreuse (10 Colors x 20pcs) Kit Box to design and create a card with a light up feature to present to a family member or special adult in their life as a sign of appreciation.
The best way to engage my students is to challenge them with an engineering design project.
With this project, my students will learn how to deal with constraints and complete the design requirements of creating their own greeting cards. A whole lot of fun learning!
